A new Washington bicycling guide could be speeding to the press next spring with a little help from the Washington cycling community. “Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-Day Tours in Washington” is the brainchild of Ellee Thalheimer, owner of Into Action Publications and author of two other cycling guidebooks.

Thalheimer recruited four Washington authors to join her on this bike-pedaling, book-creating adventure, including Katherine Widing, Josh Cohen, Martina Brimmer and Steve Krippner. These authors were selected for their sense of adventure, unique storytelling abilities, insights into local history and humor.

The book will include 9-10 multi-day tours with detailed cue sheets and maps, as well as information on food, lodging, attractions and activities for cyclists at any level of experience and on any budget.

Royalties from book sales will support Bicycle Alliance of Washington and their efforts to improve and maintain bike infrastructure and legislation throughout the state. Bicycle Alliance of Washington is leading a Kickstarter campaign and a benefit bike tour to raise funds for the publication.

Kickstarter donors will receive an array of fun perks like autographed book copies, original bike-themed musical performances or organizational logos printed on the back cover. The crowd-funding campaign will run through Aug. 26. The group hopes to raise $10,000. Go HERE >>  http://bit.ly/WAbiketourbook to make a donation.

The benefit bike tour will take cyclists through the wine country around Walla Walla, Wash., from Sept. 19-22. There is room for up to 10 people to sign up for the tour. Registration is $1,800 per person. Contact Louise McGrody at louisemc@bicyclealliance.org for more information.

We made the goal! Now we’ve set a stretch goal of $14,000 that will enable us to do even more to produce and promote the book. If we get there, Kickstarter backers will be invited to an exclusive pre-function the night of the book launch party (TBD sometime in April 2014).

Thanks for writing about the book. The response has been fantastic–270 backers already and more to come before the deadline Wed. Aug. 28.
