Many women’s lives have been changed over the years through their participation in the Danskin Women’s Triathlon. And this year’s event Aug. 18 at Seward Park will be no different—except by its new name: Athleta Iron Girl Seattle Women’s Triathlon.

Iron Girl successfully ran its 5k/10k race in Seattle for many years in September at Green Lake. This year they are dropping the September Iron Girl event and teaming up with XXtraMile which previously produced the triathlon under the Danskin name.

“We are thrilled to host a women’s triathlon in Seattle,” said Judy Molnar, Vice President of Iron Girl. “The Iron Girl event experience provides women with the perfect platform for first-timers and experienced athletes to reach their personal bests…. to be part of something special that supports their personal pursuits of a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Although the course will remain the same with its half mile swim, 12-mile bike and 3-mile run, the expo will be moved to nearby Genesee Park. Iron Girl will bring its popular post-race catered breakfast café which features linen covered tables. There is also a new women’s sized shirt and every participant will receive a finisher’s medal. Oh, and the personalized race bibs with each participant’s name are always a saver!

Title sponsor Athleta is offering in-store events at its University Village Seattle location that includes training, race-ready clinics and packet pick-up in store race week. Individual entry fees are $105 until Aug. 14 and $125.00 at packet pick up; relay teams are $240 for a three-person team and $170 for a team of two. There is an additional $12 fee for non-USAT members to cover a one-day permit through USAT.
