After a year of committee meetings attended by local residents, pedestrians and mountain bikers, King County Parks has approved the Big Finn Hill Park trails plan in Kirkland. The plan is designed to improve existing trails in the 220-acre park to increase usability and sustainability, and create fun, well-built challenges for mountain bikers.

“Demand for great trails close to Seattle is growing,” says David Kismet of King County Parks. “And Big Finn Hill provides many opportunities to create a terrific, sustainable trail network in an area that many hikers and bikers already visit.”

King County Parks is partnering with volunteers from Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and Finn Hill Neighborhood Alliance to make the new Big Finn Hill Trails Plan a reality.

Hundreds of hours will be dedicated to implementing the plan, which includes new signage, improved drainage and hazardous-object removal, as well as rebuilding mountain biking features to match industry standards. In addition to these changes, some trails will be rerouted to maximize the enjoyment of the park for all user groups.

Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance has kicked off a series of trail work parties at Big Finn Hill that are open to the public and free to attend.
