Rally your kids, bicycles and cowbells for festivities and a free lunch.

Castle Rock Bike Park will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a Bike Park Blowout on Sept. 21. Last year’s grand opening event drew more than 350 cyclists, many of them children.

Staying true to form, this year’s event will include 15 kids’ challenge stations. Helmet stickers will be doled out as a reward for each attempt, and riders who receive 15 stickers will also get “champion” medals courtesy of Northwest cyclists Jerry and Andrea de Ruyter. The kids’ challenge will run from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Adult riders are welcome to enjoy any bike park features throughout the day but will be granted special adult-only access from 8 – 10 a.m.

North County Recreation Association will serve up barbecue hot dogs for lunch. Castle Rock Mayor Paul Helenburg will be behind one of the grills.

Growlers Gulch Racing, the volunteer group responsible for constructing the park, has added a dozen new features during the past year, with something for riders of all skill levels. The volunteer group has contributed 2,500 hours to the bike park and has used recycled materials to the great extent possible.
