Local Residents Use Wit and Endurance in Uniquely Challenging Foot Race
Great Urban Race offers a fierce competition that takes participants dashing through their cities, with a twist: racers complete demanding mental and physical challenges while competing for a cash prize and potentially $10,000. The urban scavenger hunt will hit Seattle May 18.
Team members solve and complete 12 unique clues at local businesses and landmarks, which in previous race locations have included lying on a bed of nails, walking on fire and taking a photo with a live tiger. First, second, and third place finishers receive a cash prize. The top 25 finishing teams in each location will secure a spot in the National Championship race, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At the Championship, $10,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs.
“Great Urban Race offers participants a unique challenge,” says Race Director Jordan Diehl. “People really have to push their boundaries to complete Great Urban Race. It’s a mixture of not only physical but also mental challenges done while running upwards of 6-10 miles; that’s why this edgy urban scavenger hunt keeps people coming back for more year after year.”
For the fifth year in a row, Great Urban Race is thrilled to continue its partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, the nation’s top children’s cancer hospital. The St. Jude Heroes program allows Great Urban Race participants to give back while they compete by signing up during registration and securing donations from family and friends. To support each Hero’s cause, Great Urban Race will donate $10 to the hospital for each participant who registers. Throughout the partnership, Great Urban Race’s St. Jude Heroes have raised over $345,000 in support of St. Jude and its fight against childhood cancer.
Tickets are $65 per person until 5:00pm local time on May 17, 2013. Race Day registration will be available for $75 per person on Saturday, May 18th, 2013. The race is open to everyone; however, an adult must accompany participants under the age of 18. Registration begins at 11am at Jillian’s on 731 Westlake Avenue North Seattle, WA 98109. The race begins at noon.
