The McConkey Foundation and Protect Our Winters (POW) invite students of Hot Planet Cool Athletes to participate in the McConkey Eco-Challenge.

Teams will contend for money to aid with their schools’ green initiatives. Prizes are $6,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place and $1,000 for third place.

Adult advisors will lead 5-10 students on each team to create projects that lower their carbon footprint. Students can sign up at www.protectourwinters.org/ourtimeisnow through Dec.15, 2013. Projects must be completed and submitted to the same website by April 1, 2014. Prizes will be awarded on Earth Day.

Hot Planet Cool Athletes is a POW climate change program taught to school-age youth by professional skiers and snowboarders from the POW Riders Alliance and the North Face professional team.

This program has been taught at schools in Seattle, Wash., and Vancouver, B.C. and in schools across the US.
