On Saturday, March 2, the outdoor community suffered a loss when Don Hanson, owner and proprietor of the Scottish Lakes High Camp died in a tragic accident. He was out marking trails within view of the lodge at the camp when branches from a snow-laden tree snapped overhead and buried him.
Don’s hospitality is what set the Scottish Lakes High Camp apart from other lodges or inns in the Northwest. He shared his love of the outdoors and the gorgeous setting of the High Camp with the countless visitors who came through to stay.
The Scottish Lakes High Camp has long been a favorite of ours at Outdoors NW, and was featured as recently as last month as one of our Weekender destinations. It was always a pleasure to deal with Don, and we enjoyed our relationship with him over the years. Our thoughts are with his family.
Details on the celebration of Don’s life to be held today, March 7, at the Leavenworth Festhalle can be found on the Scottish Lakes High Camp website. It is expected there will be hundreds in attendance, from all over the country. He will be missed.
