Portland, Ore.

You are invited to help Oregon defend its Guinness World Record for the world’s largest tree hug from 2-4 p.m. July 12 at Hoyt Arboretum in Portland, Ore.

Portland tree huggers set a new world record last year with 936 people simultaneously hugging trees for one minute at Hoyt Arboretum; however, tree-hugging challengers have already attempted to best Portland’s record, most recently in Nepal and Scotland.

Besides the world-record attempt, this event will feature live music from bluegrass band Ten Spiders and booths from event organizers, including Hoyt Arboretum Friends, Treecology, Portland Parks & Recreation, Friends of Trees and Ascending the Giants. Event activities will highlight trees, the environment and sustainability.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged to ensure an accurate count for the record book. For more information or to sign up, go to: http://www.hoytarboretum.org/events/tree-hug
