Avalanche safety organizations in the U.S. and Canadian – including Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) – have partnered to invite skiers and snowboarders to create a four-minute video that shows proper preparation for riding in sidecountry.
“Show us what happens before you hit your favorite powder stash,” says Bruce Edgerly, VP of avalanche safety equipment manufacturer, Backcountry Access (BCA). “Use your camera to tell the story about how you and your crew get ready to safely explore beyond the resort boundary – and you’ve got a great chance to win some amazing prizes.”
The videos will be posted on Vimeo and promoted by GoPro and other partners. The deadline to submit to the contest is March 21. Winners will be selected by an expert panel; besides content, the popularity of the video will also be a contributing factor.
Prizes for winning videos include a two-day trip for two at Monashee Powder Snowcats in B.C., two four-day Gold Passes to any resort in the U.S., a Backcountry Access Float 22 airbag and a GoPro Hero3 camera.
The winning videos will be announced at the end of March, and Sherpas Cinema will create a final highlight reel with the best submissions to broadcast at ski events and major retailers next winter.
