The City of Portland held a special Breakfast on the Hawthorne Bridge on July 26 to celebrate one-million bridge-crossings on the Hawthorne Bicycle Bridge in 2013. As part of the fun, Portland bicyclists and other green commuters indulged in millionth-trip themed donuts and posed for photographs with “One Million + Me” signs.

The snazzy electronic bicycle counter was installed on the bridge last year with support from Cycle Oregon and Multnomah County. The bike counter helps city planners get an idea of how well they are meeting long-term transportation, public health and environmental goals.
