Conservation Victory in Port Gamble Bay!

Port Gamble, Wash.
Kitsap Forest & Bay Coalition launched a crowd-funding campaign Jan. 17 on Indiegogo.com to help fill a funding gap to purchase and conserve the first 535 acres of forest and shoreline on Port Gamble Bay as part of the Kitsap Forest & Bay Project. The land comes with a $4.6 million price tag.
Contributors met and exceeded a goal of $8,000 in the first 48 hours of the crowd-funding campaign. Donations through Indiegogo reached $11,741 by the last day of the campaign Feb. 3.
These donations along with a generous donation from the Port Gamble S’Klallam tribe and others funding sources received over several years of effort – including a National Coastal Wetlands Conservation grant, Washington Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account grant, and funds from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program, and the Washington Department of Ecology – will allow the coalition to purchase the land.
All funds received beyond that goal will be used to further the mission of the Kitsap Forest & Bay Project. The project’s end goal is to conserve more than 6,700 acres of land in the Port Gamble Forest, North Kitsap Heritage Park Expansion, Divide Forest and Hansville Forest.
